A 20-year-old West Chester woman was shot and killed by her 22-year-old boyfriend before he turned the gun on himself Tuesday, Downingtown police said Wednesday night.
After Thomas Reck's daughter, Mary Elizabeth, did not come home Monday evening, he contacted police.
Downingtown police went to the home of her boyfriend, Kevin Smith, on Jefferson Avenue about 8 p.m. Tuesday to check on the situation.
They found Reck inside the house with multiple gunshot wounds, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Smith died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police said.
The weapon was legally registered to Smith, police said. The investigation is continuing and police are asking anyone with information to contact them, especially anyone who might have seen the couple Monday night.
"We heard that they were out in West Chester Monday night, but we don't know more than that," said Downingtown Police Chief James R. McGowan 3d.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
