HILLSBORO, Ore. — A Beaverton man who admitted beating his wife to death with a hammer says he pleaded guilty to murder so his children wouldn't have to testify against him.
After the plea last week, the 52-year-old man, Namegabe Mushegero, was sentenced in Washington County Circuit Court to a minimum 25 years in prison.
His 49-year-old wife, Nabinto Kelekele, was killed in March of last year at their Beaverton apartment.
The Oregonian reports The Congolese man immigrated to the United States in 1993 and worked as a pastor, assembly line worker and cab driver. His wife prepared food for inmates at the Portland Justice Center.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
