HOUMA, La. -- A Houma man shot his girlfriend and then killed himself in front of her parents Sunday, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's deputies said.
Deputies said Jerome Williams, 28, had been fighting with his live-in girlfriend, 28-year-old Jennifer Lucas, at their apartment on Stones Thrown Drive. Lucas left the apartment and returned later with her parents so she could get some of her belongings, deputies said.
Williams briefly left the apartment and began walking in a nearby field. When he returned, he began fighting with Lucas again, investigators said.
Lucas' mother left the apartment to get Lucas' father, and while she was gone, Williams shot Lucas, deputies said.
Shortly afterward, Lucas' parents returned to the apartment not knowing their daughter had been shot. Williams allegedly threatened to kill them before putting the gun to his own head, investigators said.
Lucas was in stable condition at a hospital as of Monday morning. Deputies said Lucas was coherent and talking after her injury.

(NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
