WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) ― A Lake County judge has denied bond for 21-year-old Daniel Baker of Deerfield, who is charged with the April 1 beating death of his girlfriend's mother.
Baker was returned to Illinois Friday from Montana, where he was arrested earlier in the week.
Baker is charged with first degree murder in the baseball bat death of 50-year-old Marina Aksman of Vernon Hills, who was allegedly trying to end Baker's relationship with her 20-year-old daughter.
The daughter was with Baker when he was arrested, but is not facing charges.
Defense attorney Ed Genson said Friday he believes he will be able to prove Baker is not legally responsible for his actions at the time of the killing. But Genson declined to comment when asked if he was considering an insanity defense.

A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
