TONASKET, Wash. —
Closing arguments are expected this week in the trial of a Spokane pair charged with killing a pregnant woman with an ice pick near Tonasket.
Thirty-year-old Tansy Fae-Arwen Mathis and 34-year-old David Eugene Richards face life in prison if convicted of killing 25-year-old Michelle L. Kitterman and her unborn baby March 1, 2009.
The Spokesman-Review reports that 33-year-old Lacey K. Hirst-Pavek also awaits trial for the killing. Investigators say she planned the attack because Kitterman was having an affair with her husband.
A fourth defendant, Brent L. Phillips, of Spokane, pleaded guilty to Kitterman's murder last month. A plea deal calls for him to get 26 years in prison when sentenced May 11.
The trial began last week in Okanogan County Superior Court.

A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
