Police have identified a woman accused of shooting her ex-husband to death in Mesa before initiating a three-hour standoff with officers late Wednesday.
Kathy D. Thorpe, 50, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder after allegedly shooting Don Thorpe, according to Mesa police.
Police responded to Thorpe’s residence near Westwood and Eighth Avenue after Kathy Thorpe called 911 and told a dispatcher she shot a man. After officers arrived at the scene, the woman refused to let them into her home, even threatening them with a gun, police said.
After three hours, police were able to get inside the residence where they discovered the body of Don Thorpe.
The motive of the shooting was not immediately known.
