A man accused of domestic violence pulled out a gun when he was approached by three Atlanta police detectives Friday night. One of the detectives fired one shot, killing the suspect at the scene, police said late Saturday.
Ronald Hale, 33, was wanted for questioning, Atlanta police spokesman Officer Otis Redmond told the AJC. Officers also had an outstanding arrest warrant for Hale, wanted for a separate simple assault charge, Redmond said.
The three detectives went to Hale's apartment, in the 100 block of Jackson Street near downtown, Friday evening. Hale was armed with a gun, Redmond said.
"There were weapons raised ... and shots were fired," interim Atlanta police Chief George Turner said late Friday night.
Hale was killed by a single gunshot wound to the chest, the Fulton County Medical Examiner's office told the AJC early Sunday morning.
The Atlanta police department homicide unit and office of professional standards are investigating the incident, Redmond said.
