A 40-year-old man died Monday afternoon after he allegedly shot his ex-wife in Schertz, then shot himself while en route to Houston.
Jefferson Crawford was arrested by Waller County deputies around 11 a.m., said Schertz police spokesman Brad Bailey. Deputies then discovered the self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was flown to a Houston-area hospital, where he later died, officials said.
Authorities looked for Crawford after he reportedly shot his ex-wife, whose name was not released, in the 1200 block of Eli Whitney in Schertz at 7:05 a.m.
Bailey said officers responding to a call for a shooting at the home found a woman with several gunshot wounds. The injured woman was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center, where she remained in stable condition.
The couple's 17-year-old son was at the home when the shooting took place but was not injured, Bailey said. By the time officers had arrived at the home, Crawford had fled the scene in a bronze-colored 2005 Cadillac sedan.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
