PICKENS (AP) -- A South Carolina man has been convicted of shooting and killing his wife last year.
53-year-old Clifford Austin Wylie was sentenced Wednesday in court in Pickens to life in prison without parole.
Prosecutors say Melissa Wylie was shot in the back at their home last February.
A seven-woman, five-man jury deliberated for a little more than an hour before returning guilty verdicts on charges of murder, illegal conduct toward a child and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Wylie's 8-year-old son was in the house when Melissa Wylie was killed.
Defense attorney John DeJong says Clifford Wylie has lost his health and family and has shown a great deal of remorse.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
