The couple's 17-year-old daughter discovered the body.
An Orange County jury on Wednesday found 40-year-old Fidelio Marin guilty of second-degree murder with a sentencing enhancement for using a deadly weapon. He faces up to 16 years to life in prison when he's sentenced April 29.
Prosecutors say Marin lured 32-year-old Felix Mendez to a Huntington Beach motel in October 2008. Marin, who had been staying at the motel because his wife told him she wanted a divorce, testified that he snapped and stabbed Mendez.
