A woman accused of fatally stabbing her boyfriend over the weekend pleaded not guilty Monday in City Court.
Michelle D. Spirles, 38, of Evergreen Street was charged with second-degree murder, a felony, in connection with the death of Andre J. Biggs, 22, on Evergreen Street near Clinton Avenue shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday, said Rochester Police Officer Stephen Scott. Spirles is accused of stabbing Biggs once in the neck with a steak knife.
Biggs, known as "Daye-Daye" by family and friends, was taken from the crime scene to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery. He died about 5:30 a.m., according to City Court records.
"I'm really going to miss my brother," Islisa Biggs, 23, of Rochester said outside City Court.
"I don't know what to feel today."
Andre and Islisa Biggs were born about 9 months apart, and were raised by their grandmother after their mother died when they were young, she said.
Islisa Biggs' fiancé, Eddie Thomas, said Andre Biggs was supposed to be his best man at their upcoming wedding.
"He was a kindhearted, fun, energetic person who always brought excitement to my life," Thomas said.
Thomas said Spirles had been dating Biggs off-and-on for the last eight months.
Spirles was remanded to the Monroe County Jail without bail. She is due to return to City Court for a preliminary hearing at 11 a.m. Thursday. Calling hours and a funeral service for Andre Biggs will be held between 7 and 9 p.m. Thursday at Memories Funeral Home, 1005 Hudson Ave., according to family members
