MISSION, Texas — A South Texas woman whose husband was found shot to death in their home has been accused of plotting to kill him for his money.
Vanessa Garcia of Mission was jailed Thursday on a capital murder charge, with bond set at $500,000. Hidalgo County Detention Center records did not list an attorney for the 28-year-old Garcia, who was arraigned Wednesday.
Investigators say the June 2010 crime was staged to make it appear the killing of 28-year-old Reyes Garcia happened during a home invasion.
Three men were arrested earlier, allegedly paid $20,000 by the wife to carry out the slaying. One suspect allegedly told investigators that Garcia wanted her husband dead so she could get an unspecified amount of money he kept at their home.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
