The coroner says the deaths of two people, found shot in their Mercer County home, is a case of murder, suicide.
Mercer County Sheriff Ernie Kelty tells 27 NEWSFIRST a woman and her son found the couple dead Tuesday around 7:00pm. They say the couple was the woman's parents. They had gone to check on the couple after trying call them on the phone, with no luck.
The The sheriff has identified the couple as 63-year-old Rafael Lopez and his wife, 57-year-old Teresa Lopez. Both victims were found along with the weapon, a revolver, in their home on Paradise Camp Road near Herrington Lake. The Mercer County coroner says Mr. Lopez was found in the bedroom, with one gunshot wound to the head, and Mrs. Lopez was in the kitchen, also shot in the head.
Neighbors say the couple had lived in the home for about six years. They say Teresa Lopez is a retired school bus driver, and Rafael Lopez had retired from American Airlines.
The Mercer County Sheriff says to his knowledge, the couple has no history of any sort of violence.
