Indianapolis— Investigators say a woman found dead inside a west side apartment Thursday night was stabbed to death by her live-in boyfriend. Steven A. Davis, 27, has been arrested for the murder of 35-year-old Dawnita Gibson.
Following an investigation by IMPD detectives and the Marion County Coroner’s Office, the death of Dawnita Gibson has now been ruled a homicide. Ms. Gibson died as a result of multiple stab wounds. Her live in boyfriend, Steven A. Davis, 27, has been arrested for the murder.
Gibson's body was found Thursday night by police. Officers were called to the Chapel Hill Apartments near 10th and Girls School Road around 8:30 p.m. on a report of a domestic disturbance. When officers knocked at the door, a man inside answered "just a minute." Officers became suspicious and called for backup. When they entered the apartment, Gibson's body was found. Police say she had been stabbed several times.
Police believe Davis escaped through the back of the apartment. He was later located by officers and taken into custody for questioning before he was charged with the murder.
