An Oak Lawn couple is dead in another apparent murder-suicide, the second in the area in three days.
Oak Lawn police responded to a shooting at 2:50 p.m. this afternoon in the 6800 block of 96th Place, according to a press release by Chief Bill Villanova.
Police found Bernadette Huladek, 49, and John Huladek, 52, in the backyard of their home. According to the release, Huladek confronted his estranged wife in their backyard and shot her twice – once in the chest and once in the abdomen. He then shot himself.
Both were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
An order of protection barred Huladek from the couple’s home after his arrest for assault July 23, police said. At the time, police removed multiple guns and ammunition from the house.
Thursday’s shooting in Oak Lawn occurred less than a mile and a half from another apparent murder-suicide in Chicago Ridge Tuesday night.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
