A central Florida man fatally shot his ex-wife and her new husband and then killed himself.
The Seminole County Sheriff's Office reports that 59-year-old John Marshall went to his ex-wife's home Thursday morning and began shooting at the house. Authorities say 59-year-old Orval D. Burkhart ran out of the house and made it a few hundred feet before Marshall chased him down with a scooter and shot him.
At the same time, Marshall's ex-wife, 54-year-old Dale Leigh Marshall-Burkhart, was driving back to the house and saw the shooting. Marshall shot her, and her sport utility vehicle drifted into a tree. Marshall then shot himself.
Deputies aren't sure what provoked the attack.
Marshall and Marshall-Burkhart, who had five children, divorced seven years ago.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
