Woman Charged with Killing Ex-Boyfriend - Marcus Conroy Reports
A Johnson County woman is in jail Saturday night, and accused of killing a man outside her home.
Police say 52 year-old Donna Wheeler fatally shot 52 year-old James T. Sparks in the back Friday night. The incident happened outside her home on Barber Branch outside of Paintsville, Johnson County
Wheeler's step-brother, Robert Hall, says the two dated off and on for a year, but it was a troubling relationship. Johnson County Sheriff's officers say they have responded to multiple complaints about the couple in the past.
Hall says Wheeler bought a gun for protection, and was worried why she had it.
"I said, 'Donna please sell it, get rid of it.' Because i knew somehow, someway nothing but trouble's gonna come, and she just never would," Hall said.
Wheeler is in custody at the Big Sandy Detention Center. Her bond is set at $1 million cash.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
