IRON COUNTY -- There was a murder-suicide Saturday night in to early Sunday morning in Iron County.
A woman shot to death by her boyfriend, and then the mid-40's man barricaded himself in his home for nearly eight hours.
No names have been released.
It all played out in Bates Township and Caspian. It started around 10 p.m. Central time last night at a home in Bates Township where the woman lived. That's where the man shot his girlfriend to death.
He took off and went to his home in Caspian in the area of West First Street and Caspian Avenue.
Police found they had a barricaded gunman stand off.
The Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team was mobilized from throughout the state along with a K-9 unit from the Sault Ste. Marie Post.
20 members were brought to the Caspian location, some by Homeland Security Blackhawk helicopter and the State Police chopper.
The stand-off with the gunman went all night.
Around 7 a.m. Central time Sunday, police entered the home and found the man dead in his basement, of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Michigan State Police at the Iron River Post are handling the case.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
