ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Police were called out to a home in the 1800 block of Cobblestone Court twice Tuesday night for a domestic involving a man and a woman. But the second time officers arrived is when things took a deadly turn.
Officials say the man involved in the dispute drove off in a truck as officers approached the home. That's when investigators say he pulled a gun and took his own life while his truck was still moving.
It happened around 11:30 Tuesday night in a quiet, duplex neighborhood off Schley Avenue. Arriving officers heard the gunfire which shattered glass from the driver side window. Shards landed on the pavement and atop a police cruiser.
The truck continued moving until it rammed head on into a parked Lexus. Paramedics were called out to the scene but the man was already dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound.
Crime scene investigators were called out but determined the death a suicide.
It isn't clear what lead the man to take his own life or if alcohol was involved.
Right now police haven't released the man's name. A spokesperson with the Albany Police Department said that he was black, 30-years-old and lived in neighborhood.
The body will be sent the GBI Crime Lab in Dekalb County for an autopsy

A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
