STRATFORD, Conn. -- A woman and man were stabbed by the woman's ex-boyfriend in Stratford Monday morning, police said.
Police said around 8:25 a.m., Stratford Police responded to multiple calls of a stabbing on Hollister Street with two victims needing help
They said the female victim, Rebecca Paul-Lewis, attempted to get help from residents of a nearby home by banging on a window after the stabbing. She had been stabbed in the hands, according to police.
Stratford police said the woman's current boyfriend, identified as Mark Williams, 28, of Bridgeport, was stabbed in the arms, legs, back and head during the attack. Williams fled the home where he collapsed in the middle of the street. He was transported to Bridgeport Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Chris Scheck, who was on his way to his son's school, nearly drove into Williams in the road. "I put my truck in front of school buses so the kids couldn't see what was happening," Scheck said.
Police said the man who they believed was responsible for the attack, Joseph Stanley, 29, of Bridgeport, was seen fleeing the scene on foot, and was arrested on Jackson Avenue.
Stanley was initially charged with assault, but police said additional charges will be filed. Police said Stanley was on parole for previous drug charges.
Stanley was held on $1 million bond and was scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Tuesday.
