State police arrested and charged an Elkton man with the murder of his wife after they found him inside the home with her body Saturday.

Jason M. Costello, 24, of the 1900 block of Stone Gate Blvd. was charged with first-degree murder in his wife's death.

State police responded to 911 calls at about 10 a.m. regarding a woman heard screaming inside the Costello's home. At the couple's house, police said they saw blood on a window and, after forcing their way inside, found a woman, later identified as Ashley N. Costello, 24, lying in the living room with stab wounds to her neck.

Jason Costello was found locked inside a bathroom, holding a knife and bleeding from what appeared to be knife wounds to his wrists, police said. He was in the process of injecting a substance intravenously with a syringe, police said.

Jason Costello was transported to Union Hospital in Elkton, where he was treated for cuts and then released to police. His wife was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

After obtaining a search warrant, police found two large knives, numerous syringes and baggies of suspected drugs inside the home.

The couple has two children, ages 4 and 1, but police said they were safe, staying with their grandmother in Delaware.

Police have not released a motive, but neighbors told police they often heard the couple arguing.

Police believe the couple recently moved to the area from Colorado and were unemployed.
