Charged with murder in connection with the 2008 throat-slashing death of his estranged wife, a Fairfield man will be back in Solano County Superior Court next month.
Judge Peter B. Foor on Thursday set 8:30 a.m. Feb. 2 for a further readiness conference in the case of 42-year-old Miguel Pantoja of Fairfield. A jury trial in the case is scheduled for March 5.
Pantoja was arrested by Suisun City police a year ago after his estranged wife, 33-year-old Adriana Pantoja, was found slashed to death in the bathroom of her Coral Lane home.
Pantoja, who has pleaded not guilty, has been the subject of several mental competency evaluations since his arrest, and two separate trials to determine if he is competent to understand and participate in court proceedings. Juries in both trials last year ruled that he was mentally competent.
At least one more competency evaluation is pending prior to trial.
Pantoja remains in Solano County Jail custody.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
