(AXcess News) New York - Mount Vernon NY police arrested a man without incident after shooting and killing his 9-year-old daughter and the child's babysitter. Police were called to the home by the child's mother who had been arguing with the man on the telephone earlier.
When police arrived they heard a banging sound like a screen door when the man, Darrell Evans, 50, walked out and surrendered to police. Inside, police found the body of the child and babysitter, Lorna Williams, 42, in separate rooms on the second floor of the home. The mother, a nurse, arrived shortly after police.
Mount Vernon police chief Barbara Duncan said the mother had called police shortly after 10:30pm, saying she had been arguing with her husband and the phone and wanted police to check on her daughter.
Chief Duncan told local media that police where unclear whether Evans had shot his daughter and the babysitter before or after arguing with his wife. Details of Evans' relationship with his wife were also unclear as to whether the couple was living together at the time. No further details were released.
Evans faces two counts of second degree murder over the shootings.

(NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
