Police have charged a Glen Burnie man with murder in the death of his live-in girlfriend.
Patrick Rhys, 43, of the 400 block of Summer Wind Way was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder and first-degree assault in the death of Gloria Tongue, 49, of the same address.
Tongue's body was found on Friday afternoon. She appeared to have suffered trauma to the upper body. Her remains were to be sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
Police say Rhys went to a cousin's home in the Parkville area of Baltimore County on Friday and told the cousin that he had killed a woman at his residence. The cousin contacted Baltimore County police, who went to the cousin's home and detained Rhys.
Baltimore County Police contacted Anne Arundel Police, which dispatched officers to the apartment shared by Rhys and Tongue shortly before 2 p.m. on Friday. When they received no response at the door, police say, the officers forced their way in and found Tongue's body.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
