A Clendenin couple was shot to death this morning in what police say was a murder-suicide.
Sgt. John Jarman of the Clendenin Police Department said a call came in just before 9 a.m. about the shooting, which took place in the home of Glen and Mary Sherman at 308 6th street.
Glen Sherman told authorities on the telephone that he had shot and killed his wife Mary, Jarman said. When emergency personnel arrived at the couple's home, both Glen and Mary Sherman were dead, police said.
Jarman said the couple appeared to be in their early 70s.
Neighbors said the incident came as a shock to those who knew the couple.
One neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, said he had only spoken with Sherman on a few occasions, but said he "always figured he was a nice guy."
Another neighbor, who also asked not to be identified, said the Shermans were "fine people who always stopped to wave when I was doing work outside." They lived in Clendenin for several years and had at least one adult child, the neighbor said.
That neighbor said the couple had announced plans to move because they were getting too old to care for their property in Clendenin, but that the move seemed to be a source of concern for Glen Sherman.
The Clendenin Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
