Woman strangled; man charged

THURSDAY, MAY 14, 2009

MADISON — A Madison woman survived being strangled, and a man faces a felony charge.

The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office said Wendy Delane Rodgers and Dan Warren Boothe Jr. were at their home at 388 Case Road on Wednesday.

At about 2:30 a.m., the two argued, and the 45-year-old Rodgers was attacked as she tried to leave the room and strangled until she lost consciousness. The sheriff's office said Rodgers later awoke to find her attacker trying to revive her. Rodgers was not allowed to leave her home or call anyone.

Several hours later, Rodgers convinced her attacker to take her to a Dollar Tree store in Madison. When she arrived, she locked herself in the store's bathroom and refused to come out until the authorities arrived.

Boothe, 47, was charged with felony assault by strangulation and misdemeanor assault on a female and communicating threats. Bond was set at $2,500.
