Garden Grove man is accused of killing 22-year-old wife.

THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

GARDEN GROVE – Robert Gallardo walked up to the front desk of the Garden Grove Police Department Saturday morning and said his wife was missing.

A few hours earlier, at 3:45 a.m., an unidentifed woman's body was found a few blocks from Lake Elsinore, still burning.

That woman was Gallardo's wife, 22-year-old Sharon Elizabeth Contreras, and the man who killed her, police say, was Gallardo.

Gallardo, 26, was arrested Wednesday, after a day of frenetic activity by 15 investigators from the Garden Grove Police Department.. The case will be sent to the District Attorney's office today, police said.

The investigation started as a missing person case, but Wednesday morning, police got a tip from an informant saying that Gallardo had admitted killing his wife.

Gallardo had gone missing, too, police said.

Detectives spread out, talking to Gallardo's friends and family, and following up on the body found in Lake Elsinore, near the I-15 and Lake Street. Dental records allowed her to be identified as Contreras.

By early afternoon, police had tracked Gallardo down at his sister's house in Norwalk, and talked him into coming to the Garden Grove Police Department.

Gallardo was arrested at 3:50 p.m., after an interview, police said.

Police are continuing to investigate the case
