The elderly couple who were found dead in a burning car last Thursday north of Springville have been identified, the Tulare County Sheriff's Department said Wednesday.
Benjamin Franklin Arnold, 81, and Ellen Babel Arnold, 80, both from Springville, were found dead about 4 p.m. after firefighters were sent to a fire near Yokohl Valley Drive and Balch Park Road.
Investigators said the couple were in the car when Benjamin Arnold shot Ellen Arnold in the head. He then shot himself in the head. His foot was on the accelerator at the time, causing the engine to race, resulting in an engine fire.
The couple reportedly had deteriorating health, investigators said.

(NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
