PUPDATE: The city medical examiner has identified the victims as Julia Yasuhara, 79, and Leighton Yasuhara, 81, of Honolulu.
According to police, the couple's son went to check on his parents after his father unexpectedly cancelled an appointment scheduled for that day.
Police say the son went to his parent's home to check on them and heard three gunshots coming from the bedroom.
Police say the son tried to open the bedroom door but it was locked and called 911.
Officers arrived at the scene, opened the door, and discovered the bodies. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
