2:10 PM in the Gaslamp Quarter -- 83-year-old Joseph Gotell.allegedly shot and killed his 57-year-old wife, Deborah Gottel.
Witnesses report that the couple got into a heated, verbal argument on the busy corner of 5th and Broadway. Mr. Gotell then physically attacked his wife, pulled out a handgun and shot her twice. He dropped the weapon and walked away. He was subdued without resistance by security of a nearby hotel, who detained the homicidal husband until the police arrived.
Mrs. Gotell suffered one bullet to the head. She was pronounced brain dead at a local hospital. Her daughter, Nefra Croom, allowed Mrs. Gotell to be taken off life support and her organs harvested for donations.
Joseph Gotell is expected to be arraigned for murder this Wednesday in court.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
