Ex-boyfriend charged in woman's death
DURHAM -- Police have charged a man with killing his former girlfriend, who was found in her North Durham apartment last week.
Silvestre Alvarad Chaves, 25, of Liberty Street was arrested Wednesday in Memphis, Tenn., on unrelated charges, Durham police said Monday. Chaves was in Tennessee on Monday.
He is accused of killing Crystal Gigliotti, 21, who was found in an apartment at 4524 Newby Drive, near Horton Road and North Duke Street, shortly before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Police have not disclosed how Gigliotti was killed, but said from the beginning they thought she knew her attacker.
Police said Chaves was not the father of a child who was found in the apartment unharmed.
