Buffalo, NY (WBEN) -- One person is dead, and two people are in critical condition, following a stabbing and shooting on Buffalo's West Side.
It all began around noon, when officers were called to an apartment on Normal Avenue near Hampshire Street, according to Buffalo Police spokesman Mike DeGeorge.
Police believe that the incident was domestic in nature, with a boyfriend stabbing his girlfriend using a sword," DeGeorge explains, "...And then, at some point, apparently also stabbing the girlfriend's teenage daughter."
The suspect was standing out in the street when police arrived, still holding the sword. DeGeorge tells WBEN the officers told him several times to put down the weapon, but he did not.
"At some point, the suspect began to make advancements toward the officers, with the sword," DeGeorge says. "One of the officers discharged his weapon, striking the suspect once."
The suspect and the teenager were taken to Erie County Medical Center, where they remain hospitalized, both in critical condition. The girlfriend was also taken to the hospital, where sources say she died this afternoon.
The Buffalo Police Department's Internal Affairs Division is investigating the incident. DeGeorge says that's standard procedure, any time an officer discharges his weapon.

We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
