JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- The mother of a woman who was brutally killed this week said she witnessed the entire slaying and could not stop her daughter's ex-boyfriend from beating and stabbing her daughter to death.
Roxanne Smith said her oldest daughter, 32-year-old Tammy Smith, had an on-again off-again relationship with the suspect in the killing, who police have identified as Shawn Williams. She said her daughter and Williams had a relationship for four years, which she described as a "fatal attraction."
Roxanne Smith said during the time her daughter and Williams were a couple, Tammy suffered a broken nose, ribs and leg. She said Tammy was terrified of Williams and said she would start the process of filing a protection from abuse order against him but would back out in fear of retaliation.
Tammy Smith worked as an aide at a local nursing home and was preparing to begin a career as a phlebotomist. She is survived by three children and a granddaughter.
