Austin police said they have arrested a man they say killed his girlfriend over the weekend.
An
Austin Police Department spokesperson said that a Williamson County
Deputy found a man slumped over in the driver’s seat of an SUV near a
park.
Emergency personnel transported the man—later identified as
27-year-old Ryan Clarke—to a nearby hospital for injuries consistent
with a suicide attempt.
It was in the hospital that Clarke
admitted to a worker that he had hurt someone at the Lantana Ridge
Apartments off of West William Cannon Drive.
On Sunday, police
found the body of Clarke's girlfriend, 26-year-old Cassandra Clark,
inside the couple's unit at the Lantana Ridge Apartments. Officers say
she had obvious trauma over most of her body.
Travis County officials have charged Clarke with first degree murder. His bond is set at $100,000.
This is Austin's 32nd murder of the year.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
