VISTA, Calif. -- Testimony got under way Monday in the murder trial of a 28-year-old man accused of killing his estranged wife's lover in Fallbrook nearly two years ago.
Hector Martin Perez is charged in the April 25, 2008, death of 26-year-old Erik Ivan Aguilar.
Perez allegedly used a knife to stab Aguilar in the 800 block of East Alvarado Street while the two men were discussing the victim's relationship with Perez' estranged wife.
Aguilar died at Palomar Medical Center a short time later.
Authorities said Perez and his wife had been separated for more than a year at the time of the stabbing.
The trial is expected to last about a week in the courtroom of Vista Judge Timothy Casserly.
