McALESTER, Okla. (AP) — The state of Oklahoma is scheduled to execute a man convicted of killing his former girlfriend's daughter and her 6-year-old son more than 16 years ago.
Julius Ricardo Young is scheduled to be put to death at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester.
Young was convicted of the 1993 beating deaths of Joyland Morgan and her son, Kewan. Their bodies were discovered in separate rooms of their Tulsa apartment on Oct. 1, 1993.
Prosecutors say Young was upset that Morgan's mother had recently broken off their relationship.
Young has exhausted all of his appeals, and the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board voted 4-1 in December to deny him clemency.
The state executed three people in 2009.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
