KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A 25-year-old man and his 29-year-old sister were slain in Butler, Mo., early Friday morning, police said.
Investigators said they were called to the corner of Fort Scott and Broadway, where they found the 25-year-old dead in the street. He had been shot to death. Police identified him as Carl E. Adams.
In a home near where Adams was found, an officer found 29-year-old LaTonya L. Cooper suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed by ambulance to Bates County Memorial Hospital were she was pronounced dead. Police said Cooper was Adams' sister.
Police said Cooper's daughters were in the home. A 7-year-old girl suffered cuts to her face. Police believe she had been struck by stray bullet fragments. She is hospitalized. Cooper's 6-year-old daughter was unharmed.
A short time after the shooting, police said they found the alleged shooter -- a 26-year-old man -- dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was found inside his car in the back yard of a home owned by his father.
Police told KMBC that the motive for the slayings is unclear, but they believe the 26-year-old and Cooper were in a relationship.
