INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis authorities say a man involved in a standoff with police has died after fleeing his burning apartment and plunging into a retention pond.
Police say they went to Richard Jones' townhouse about 11:40 p.m. Saturday after receiving a call about an argument the 32-year-old had had with his girlfriend. They say Jones told them he had a shotgun and wouldn't come out.
Police say Jones fired three shots and then officers noticed a fire in an upstairs bedroom. Firefighters responded but weren't allowed inside because Jones was armed.

We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
