Durand Alexander, 31, of McKees Rocks, pleaded guilty today to two counts of first degree murder for the slayings of Tia Crawley, 15, and her mother Sherry Crawley, 43, both from Stowe.
The plea before Allegheny County Judge Edward J. Borkowski means he will spend the rest of his life in prison with no chance of parole.
Members of Mr. Alexander's family and Ms. Crawley's family were in attendance.
Mr. Alexander shot Ms. Crawley and her daughter on April 7, 2009. Their bodies were found by Ms. Crawley's now 15-year-old daughter when she got home from school that day.
Detectives said at the time he told them he killed Tia because she was a witness and that he killed her mother because he was jealous.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
