A Cape Coral man accused of killing a woman in 2008 is on suicide watch at the jail, his attorneys said today, and he may go on trial this fall.
Andrew Castor, 21, is charged with first-degree murder, grand theft of a motor vehicle and burglary with assault or battery in the killing of Bianca Marela Meza Interiano inside a duplex on Country Club Boulevard.
His attorneys, Terrance Lenamon and Kevin Shirley, said they have several depositions to take, including some out of state. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Castor.
Lenamon suggested they may be ready this fall.
Lee Circuit Judge Thomas Reese set another pre-trial conference for Oct. 26.
Authorities said Interiano had stab and slash wounds in the face, neck, chest, abdomen and arms.
Castor's mother, Sherry Randolph, told The News-Press in 2008 that her son admitted to killing Interiano during a phone conversation from the Lee County Jail shortly after his arrest.
Castor in 2003 pleaded no contest to animal cruelty after he stole a neighbor's cat, kicked it in the head and stomach and fed it to an alligator.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
