POINT, Ind. (AP) — A Chicago man has been charged with killing his
former wife in northwestern Indiana within days of their divorce
being finalized.
The Times of Munster reports 44-year-old Margarito Valdivia was charged Wednesday with murder,
battery with a deadly weapon and battery resulting in serious bodily
injury in Tuesday's death of 33-year-old Erica Valdivia of Munster and
the beating of her boyfriend.
No initial hearing date had been scheduled for Valdivia and court records did not indicate whether he had hired an attorney.
Police
responded about 5:45 a.m. Tuesday to a report of a disturbance at a
Munster home and found the woman's boyfriend standing outside with a
large cut to his head. Police said Margarito Valdivia surrendered after
the home was surrounded by a SWAT team.
