LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB Fox 41) -- A Louisville man is under arrest and charged with murder and sodomy in what police say was a non-consensual sex act that resulted in the victim's death.
58-year-old Gary Steven Bond was arrested Thursday night after a police interview just one day after the body of 34-year-old Julie Hendricks was found in his residence in the 2600 block of LeBlanc Court. According to a police report obtained by Fox 41 News, Bond admitted to engaging in a sexual act with Hendricks while she was unconscious and unable to give consent.
A spokesman for the Louisville Metro Police Department told reporters this morning that, during the sex act, Bond placed an object around the her neck, restricting her airway for approximately 10 minutes and suffocating her.
The Jefferson County coroner's office states the official cause of death as "ligature strangulation." A spokesperson for the coroner's office told Fox 41 News a garment was used to strangle Hendricks.
Police would not comment on the type of object that was used, but they did say Bond has been relatively open with them about what happened.
"I can tell you he was cooperative during the [police] interview," the spokesman said.
Police say Bond and Hendricks were both transient. They would not comment on whether the two were living together at the time.
An LMPD spokesperson said police decided to charge Bond with murder after consulting extensively with the Commonwealth Attorneys' Office and the Medical Examiner.
