SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Authorities say they might never know why a Harrisburg woman shot a sleeping friend and then turned the gun on herself.
Police say 45-year-old Kari Jo McFarlane shot 28-year-old Clint Vanderpoel in his Sioux Falls home early Tuesday with a high-powered rifle, then drove to a friend's house and killed herself with the same gun.
Police said there is no clear motive, and friends of Vanderpoel said the pair who had dated in the past did not seem to have a strained relationship.
Court records show that McFarlane had financial problems. Documents from a recent bankruptcy filing detail almost $65,000 that she owed in credit card debt.

We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
