A man is dead and a woman is in custody after a three-hour standoff late Wednesday night in Mesa.
Mesa police responded to the home near Westwood and Eighth avenues in after a receiving a call from a neighbor saying a woman who appeared to be intoxicated had knocked on his door and claimed she had shot someone, Detective Steve Berry said.
The neighbor went into the house, noticed the victim appeared to be dead and then called police.
When police arrived, the woman barricaded herself inside the home, Berry said.
Police negotiators and SWAT team members responded. The woman gave herself up without incident about 1:30 a.m., Berry said.
Officials are investigating the incident as a homicide.
While police are not releasing the names of anyone involved in the shooting, family members said the man and woman were once married, but had been divorced for more than 20 years.
