A Chelmsford man convicted of murdering his wife in what prosecutors said was a jealous attack over her plan to compete on the “Rock of Love” TV dating show was sentenced to life in prison yesterday.
Jeffrey McGee, 39, was found guilty of beating, strangling and fatally stabbing his estranged wife, Christine McGee, 31, of Tyngsboro on Nov. 20, 2007, in his Chelmsford apartment, after discovering she was vying for a spot on the reality show.
She would have competed for the affections of Poison frontman and current “Celebrity Apprentice” contestant Bret Michaels on the show.
In the days leading up to the murder, Christine McGee had allegedly partied with Bay State rocker Sully Erna of the band Godsmack and guitar virtuoso Gary Hoey, according to court testimony.
After murdering his wife, Jeffrey McGee strapped his 3-year-old son Gavin into the front seat of his Toyota Corolla and drove head-on into a dump truck in Methuen, authorities said.
A Middlesex Superior Court jury on Friday found McGee guilty of first-degree murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and reckless endangerment of a child.
“This was a vicious crime committed in front of their 3-year-old son, making him a necessary witness to the murder,” Middlesex District Attorney Gerard Leone said after the guilty verdict.
