An elderly Montgomery County man is behind bars, held without bail, accused of killing his wife of 60 years after accusing her of cheating of him.
Police were called to an apartment in the 200 block of West Broad Street in Souderton, Pa. early Wednesday morning where they found Rudi Koos (above) and his wife Waltrude; she was dead in the kitchen.
Montgomery County district attorney Risa Ferman says the 80-year-old man told detectives that he and his wife were in the apartment Tuesday night and he was watching television:
"At some point they had a bit of an argument. He was making accusations thinking that she may have been having an affair or cheating on him. She apparently laughed at him, did not take that seriously, and he then strangled her.”
Ferman says Koos called a friend to tell him what happened and then called 911 about five hours after his wife's death.
Ferman says investigators have no indication that Mrs. Koos was having any kind of an affair.
According to court papers, the couple came to the United States from Germany, where Mr. Koos was in the German Army during World War II.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
