SEYMOUR, Mo. -- One man died and his wife is hospitalized with gunshot wounds after a standoff that ended early Wednesday. Police found the wounded woman in her garage at 200 S. Division on Tuesday night. Authorities whisked her to a nearby patrol car and then took her to an ambulance. Police say the victim's husband shot her in the leg and chest before barricading himself inside the home.
Not long after officers arrived, they heard a gunshot from inside the house. When backup help arrived, officers entered the house and found the man dead in his bedroom of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Several neighbors had to wait out the ordeal at a nearby fire station.
"We were able to seal off the scene," said Seymour Police Chief Mike Ross. "We evacuated houses on each side of the residence where the incident occurred and then we made a perimeter around it and sealed it 'til we were ready to go in."
No names have been released yet. Police could not comment on whether they had been called to the home before Tuesday night.
