A Colonia man has been charged in what police say appears to be an attempted murder-suicide at his family's Amherst Avenue home late Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
Pasquale V. Bove, 43, is charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting his wife, Donna, at their house minutes before 4 p.m., police said Thursday. Hospital officials said Thursday morning that Pasquale Bove was listed in critical condition, while Donna Bove was listed in stable condition.
Police responded to 48 Amherst Ave. about 3:55 p.m. Wednesday after someone called 911 reporting the sound of gunshots from inside the home, police said. Officers found Donna Bove, 39, outside the home bleeding from a single gunshot wound to the head, according to the early investigation.
Witnesses told police that Bove said, "my husband shot me." Pasquale Bove was subsequently found in the upstairs master bedroom suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head, police said.
Both Donna and Pasquale Bove were treated at the scene and taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital by separate helicopters, police said in a news release.
Woodbridge police detectives recovered a .357 Colt Python handgun next to Pasquale Bove in the bedroom. He was charged with attempted murder, domestic violence and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Woodbridge police and the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office are still investigating. They asked anyone with information to call the Detective Bureau at 732-634-7700.
