LAKE WORTH, Fla. -- Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office detectives said a Lake Worth man fatally shot his wife and then tried to kill himself after he caught her cheating on him.
Lance McLellan, 49, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of his 39-year-old wife, Kathryn McLellan.
Deputies were called to a shooting in the 6000 block of Homeland Road at about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday.
When deputies arrived at the home, they said they found Kathryn McLellan shot to death and Lance McLellan injured from a gunshot wound. Lance McLellan was airlifted to Delray Medical Center, where he was treated and then taken into custody.
According to an arrest report, Kathryn McLellan called 911 and stated that her husband had a weapon. Then the phone went dead.
"We attempted to call back several times and finally Lance answered," sheriff's office spokeswoman Teri Barbera said.
At one point, according to Barbera, Lance McLellan said, "She's cheating on me. I caught her and it's done."
According to the report, the 911 dispatcher called back and the couple's 9-year-old daughter said, "I don't know if my mom and dad are alive."
Barbera said Lance McLellan shot his wife and then shot himself.
"He attempted to commit suicide," Barbera said. "He was not successful."
Lance McLellan, wearing a bandage on his face, was denied bond during his initial court appearance Thursday morning.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
