NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A 45-year-old Kenner man is scheduled to be sentenced Monday in New Orleans on first-degree murder charges in the 2003 rape and slaying of his teenage daughter.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Barry Ferguson. His 16-year-old daughter Brandy Ferguson was found strangled in a grassy area near Interstate 610.
An Orleans Parish jury on Saturday night found Barry Ferguson guilty of first-degree murder for raping and strangling his daughter during a drunken binge in May 2003.
Ferguson had been jailed for nearly six years and prosecutors said they had DNA evidence linking him to the killing.
The jury deliberated for about four hours before reaching its verdict.
